Hospital Honors 6 Employees with the Service Excellence Award

Pulaski, VA, February, 2016 – LewisGale Hospital Pulaski would like to congratulate the final 2015 winners of the Service Excellence Award. Each of these employees was recognized for demonstrating service excellence above and beyond their job description.

Award Winners by Month of Recognition:

September 2015 - Beth Conner, Laboratory Services
“Beth has been with LewisGale Hospital Pulaski for approximately one and half years and in that time she has shown up to work with a smile on her face every day, said Terena Scott, MT (ASCP), Director of Laboratory Services. “She is super friendly and interactive with the patients, physicians and staff.”

October 2015 - Debra Rhyder, Patient Access
“Debra has exemplary customer service skills, said Rena McPeak, Director of Patient Access. “She always puts our patients first and is always willing to go that extra mile for all of them. For one family member she even purchased hospital gowns for his wife on her own credit card and had them sent to their home. I am proud she is part of our TEAM!”

November 2015 - Diane Blankenship, LPN, Medical-Surgical Unit
“Diane’s shift was over but she informed me she wanted to be with the family to provide support,” wrote a fellow coworker who nominated Diane for the award. “She remained in the room until the patient passed. She held the son as he cried and shared the tears of all in the room providing hugs and listening as they said their final goodbyes. This is what caring all is about.”

“The patient stated she had little family and minimal support systems and was so grateful for these individuals as well as others who had made her feel "cared for through their compassion,” said Linda Shepherd, Chief Nursing Officer. “She stated if she were not planning to go home to spend her last days, she would prefer to stay at LewisGale Hospital Pulaski, where she knew she would be surrounded by people who cared.”

The Service Excellence Employee of the Month is selected using the following criteria:

  • Demonstrates exemplary individual achievement, contribution and performance in their jobs and other related duties beyond their own job description.
  • Inspires and supports the organization’s ICARE Values of Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude toward responsibilities, co-workers, and customers, and serves as a role model for others.
  • Exercises servant leadership, takes initiative, and accepts and carries out additional responsibilities beyond the regular job assignments for the good of the organization.
