Low Moor, VA, May, 2014 – After a rigorous on-site inspection, The College of American Pathologists (CAP) recently awarded reaccreditation to the laboratory at LewisGale Hospital Alleghany for meeting the highest standards of care. Inspectors examined labs records, quality control procedures, equipment, and staff qualifications for the preceding two years to determine if the lab met its criteria.
“We want to ensure our patients receive the best possible care at our hospital and that’s why we continue to apply for this voluntary accreditation,” said William H. Lanehart, M.D., Laboratory Director. “Achieving this distinction mean we’ve met or exceeded national standards that are recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than its own inspection program.”
The laboratory at LewisGale Hospital Alleghany provides testing on clinical specimens for the diagnoses and treatment of disease.
For more than 50 years, The College of American Pathologists has been considered a worldwide leader in laboratory quality assurance and the gold standard for laboratory accreditation. There are more than 7,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.
