Blacksburg, VA, May, 2013 – For more than 22 years, LewisGale Hospital Montgomery has been a state-recognized trauma center, one of 14 in Virginia. Last month, the hospital was re-verified as a Level III trauma center for another three years after an on on-site survey – proving it meets stringent state standards to care for some of the most critically injured patients.
“In times of crisis, our community turns to our hospital for critical care,” said Alan Fabian, CEO, LewisGale Hospital Montgomery. “We are committed to the care and improvement of human life and it is our privilege to daily provide a higher level of care when patients need it most.”
The survey team, consisting of representatives from the Virginia Department of Health and Office of Emergency Medical Services, commended the hospital’s trauma director, David Stoeckle, M.D., and its surgeons for the strength of its trauma program. The hospital was also recognized for the design of its emergency department trauma bays and equipment to help care for severely injured patients.
In addition to its trauma center designation, the hospital has also taken several steps to ensure patients receive optimal care including a dynamic performance improvement program, a continued focus on nursing specialty certifications for staff and maintaining Magnet status for excellence in nursing.
