Pulaski, VA, June, 2014 – LewisGale Hospital Pulaski is pleased to announce that Zebulun (Zeb) Wolfe was recently selected as the Service Excellence Employee of the Month for June. The award recognizes outstanding employees who demonstrate service excellence beyond their job description.
Zeb has worked as a Plant Operator/Electrician at LewisGale Hospital Pulaski for the past year. He is known for thinking outside the box to solve technical problem that could significantly impact patient care. During a recent power outage, the circuit breaker that powers the hospital’s linear accelerators tripped and the batteries need to power the machines also died. The hospital was in the process of calling more 25 cancer patients to let them know they would not be able to get their treatments when Zeb came up with a creative solution. He took the extra batteries that he had from emergency lighting in the house and created an external bypass of batteries that operated the circuit breaker. This worked and the hospital was able to operate on this machine until the new batteries came in later in the week.
"He really saved the day," said Marsha Myers, Cancer Center Director. "I appreciate him thinking out of the box and staying late into the afternoon/evening to get this working."
"Zeb is a great employee," said Barry Lane, Engineering Director. "He has contributed a lot of skill and expertise in his roll here. One of his top skills for me would be his ability to think outside the box. He has also shown true dedication as described in the nomination."
