LewisGale Hospital Pulaski Hosts Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon

May 19, 2014

Pulaski, VA, May, 2014 — In honor of National Volunteer Month in April, LewisGale Hospital Pulaski recently held a volunteer appreciation lunch to recognize its 45 active volunteers and chaplains. Over the last 12 months, they have donated more than 8,300 hours service.

To celebrate the occasion, several volunteers were presented with pins in recognition of their hours worked and years of service. The hospital’s Chief Nursing Officer, Linda Shepherd, RN, also recited a poem she wrote about the importance of volunteers.

"Your depth of commitment, quality of service, and devotion define our facility’s vision that 'above all else we are committed to the care and improvement of human life' each and every time," read one phrase in the poem.

LewisGale Hospital Pulaski always welcomes the opportunity for new volunteers and chaplains. Volunteers serve in a variety of ways at the hospital from working the front desk to delivering flowers and visiting with patients. They also receive a few perks include a free meal per 3-hours shift works, an annual complimentary flu shot, and free volunteer jacket.

"Our volunteers are just as much a part of the LewisGale family as our employed staff," said Jana Beckner, Director of Human Resources and Volunteer Services. "We rely on them to provide the extra services that add to the comfort, care and happiness of our patients. We can’t thank them enough for donating the gift of their time."
