LewisGale Regional Health System Offers Bariatric Program for Surgical Weight loss

March 14, 2013

Salem, VA, March, 2013 – LewisGale Regional Health System is pleased to announce the opening of its new bariatric program for the surgical treatment of obesity. The program is under the direction of Mouza T. Goova, M.D., FACS, a bariatric and board-certified general surgeon who has successfully completed more than 150 bariatric surgical cases during her career.

“Obesity is a major health issue that contributes to the development of many life-threatening or disabling health conditions including heart disease, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and diabetes,” said Dr. Goova. “Bariatric surgery is an effective solution for weight loss and obesity-related health conditions, when all other attempts at losing weight have failed.”

The program will offer patients three options for surgical weight loss – gastric bypass, lap band, and sleeve gastrectomy. Dr. Goova will perform all of these procedures laparoscopically, which means smaller incisions for the patient and a quicker recovery time.

“We are committed to helping our patients achieve weight loss success by providing them with a team of experts including dietitians, physical therapists and mental health professionals,” said Goova. “We will also offer a monthly support group.”
