Pulaski, VA, May, 2014 — As the President spends this month touring cities ravaged by tornadoes, closer to home LewisGale Hospital Pulaski is training its staff and working with other regional emergency responders on disaster preparedness. The hospital is hosting its second annual Emergency Management Day on Thursday, May 15. This year the public is also invited to participate by attending a special session at 1 p.m. on personal preparedness presented by the Red Cross.
"You never know when a disaster or crisis might strike," said Bob Suddarth, Director of Emergency Preparedness, LewisGale Hospital Pulaski. "This is event is an opportunity for members of the Near Southwest Preparedness Alliance to come together and show our readiness to handle and support disasters of all kinds."
More than 100 people are expected to attend the training event including physicians, emergency planners and local fire and EMS officials. This year the event will feature a variety of sessions including management of the emergency room during a disaster and caring for victims during a radiological disaster. In addition, there will be several regional resources on display include a decontamination tent, a mobile morgue, STIP (Stabilize and Treat In Place Tent), and law enforcement animals.
