The Patient's Advocate: DAISY Award Winner Christy Rodgers Goes Above the Call of Duty
November 02, 2011
Pulaski, VA, November, 2011 – Whether she's caring for a patient or volunteering at a community health event, Christy Rodgers, R.N., B.S.N, C.M.S.N., is known for going above and beyond the call of duty.
It's the reason she was chosen as the third quarter winner of the 2011 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
A patient's family member remembers how Christy went the extra mile for her mother who came to the ER. Christy met the family in the lobby.
"She asked if she could help," wrote the family member who nominated Christy for the award. "I told her we were ok. I got to the ER, turned around and there was Christy with two warm blankets."
One of Christy's co-workers will never forget how she stepped in to help a critical patient on another unit. "She is a wonderful leader and a friend to all of her co-workers but first and foremost she is a patient advocate," said Ellen Greene, B.S.N., R.N., Director of the Medical/Surgical Unit.
Christy has been with LewisGale Hospital Pulaski since 2006. She currently serves as a Clinical Coordinator for the Medical/Surgical Department.
"I am very surprised and honored to receive this award," she said.
The Chief Nursing Officer believes it's easy to see why Christy deserves it.
"Christy has embraced the profession of nursing as evidenced by her devotion to the patient, the staff and the community," said Sandy Emeott, B.S.N., R.N., Chief Nursing Officer, LewisGale Hospital Pulaski. "She creates an environment that puts the patient first."
Christy's enthusiasm for her profession is contagious.
"We feel honored to have Christy as part of our team," said Mark Nichols, CEO, LewisGale Hospital Pulaski. "She represents what makes our hospital one of the best in the nation, a true commitment to provide every patient with exceptional care."
