Patient-centered care is a foundational core value for nursing’s philosophy, mission, and vision at LewisGale Regional Health System (LGRHS). In addition to patient-centered care as a core nursing value, the professional growth and recognition of our nursing staff, new knowledge and innovation, evidence-based practice and transformational leadership is also highly valued and incorporated into our philosophy, mission, vision, and strategic planning process.

LGRHS has a 100-year tradition of outstanding patient-centered nursing care in Southwest Virginia. As a continuation of that proud tradition of caring for the community, the LGRHS nursing staff and leadership has embarked on the journey to ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® designation. As a nursing organization, we have adopted the Synergy model as our Professional Practice Model. This was chosen because it best describes our hundred-year history of meeting the nursing needs of our community by identifying and developing the required competencies of our professional nursing staff. The compass in our Professional Practice Model schematic is important as it represents not only the HCA Virginia Health System, it also represents the safe passage of our patients through our healthcare system as a result of the identification of patient and family needs and the assurance that our professional nursing staff have the necessary competencies to promote outstanding safe, patient-centered nursing care.

The nursing Professional Practice Model at LGRHS is supported through Shared Governance Councils, unit-based teams, evidence-based practice and research, as well as participation in hospital committees and task forces. We believe this promotes professional accountability and responsibility in a collegial environment that will promote quality patient-centered care.
