The IRF at the Regional Rehabilitation Center at LewisGale Medical Center provides inpatients with intensive therapy a minimum of five out of seven days a week.

What Sets Us Apart
- Our dedicated, enthusiastic , specially trained professionals working collaboratively as a team. A team conference - consisting of the rehabilitation physician, rehabilitation nurse, treating therapists, and social worker- meet weekly to review goals and the plan of care for each patient. Informal team collaboration occurs on a daily basis. Patients in our IRF receive more hours of therapy per week as compared to patients in a skilled nursing facility.
- Care and treatment provided under the supervision of a Board Certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician
Our Scope of Care
Includes the major disciplines of rehab centered around one goal – to help you or your loved one achieve the maximum level of recovery possible through rehabilitation.
- Physical Therapy – focusing on the restoration of physical strength, endurance, coordination and range of motion.
- Occupational Therapy – uses the activities of everyday living to promote maximum functioning at home and at work.
- Speech/Language Therapy – includes the techniques and strategies to evaluate and treat communication, cognitive , and swallow disorders.
- Rehabilitation Nursing – assesses and manages medical, nutritional and skin care issues, as well as reinforces techniques utilized in therapy sessions
- Rehabilitation Social Worker Case Manager – is assigned to each patient and their family to guide them through every step of the rehabilitation process. Their focus is on coordinating discharge planning needs.
Admission Criteria
To determine if patients qualify for admission to the Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (IRF) at LewisGale Medical Center, a Physiatrist and/or Clinical Rehabilitation Specialist will conduct a patient evaluation utilizing the following criteria.
