Christiansburg, VA, September, 2013 – Dawn Fouse, PA-C, has always had a special interest in caring for patients with diabetes. Since joining the practice at LewisGale Physicians at Hickok Street, she has witnessed the need to help people better manage their diabetes. She felt it was important to take her passion one step further to become a Certified Diabetes Educator®, becoming certified in June 2013. A diabetic educator offers an additional level of care including the incorporation of diet, exercise and lifestyle therapies to complement standard medical treatments.

“We have a very high prevalence of diabetes in our community,” said Fouse. “My goal is to help people better control their diabetes, reducing their risk for developing some of the complications associated with disease including heart disease, kidney failure and amputations.”

Fouse is a board-certified Physician Assistant who also specializes in general adult and preventive medicine. She works alongside T. Scott Jamison, M.D., at their practice at 10 Hickok Street in Christiansburg. For more information, call 540.381.1882.

Currently, there are nearly 18,000 diabetes educators who hold the certification from the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators.
