Blacksburg, VA, July 2012 – LewisGale Hospital Montgomery and LewisGale Hospital Pulaski both received excellent scores in a recent study that measured quality across several components of care.  In fact, both hospitals made the top 10 list among 102 hospitals surveyed in Virginia, Georgia, and New York.

LewisGale Hospital Pulaski ranked number two in the study and LewisGale Hospital Montgomery came in number four.

The study conducted by Anthem BlueCross BlueShield was based on patient data collected over a twelve-month period from July 2010 to June 2011. The Quality Insights®: Hospital Incentive Program (Q-HIP) tracked hospital performance related to patient safety, patient satisfaction and health outcomes across broad and diverse categories of care.

Examples include patient outcomes for heart attack and heart failure, the incidence of providing patients with pneumonia and influenza vaccinations, the amount of time it took to treat heart attack patients after arrival in the Emergency Department, and the responsiveness of nurses to patient requests, among many others.  

Q-HIP performance is tied directly to guidelines set by The Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the Leapfrog Group, the National Quality Forum, and other organizations dedicated to improving care and lowering costs for patients.
