Salem, Va. (April 30, 2021) — LewisGale Regional Health System announced plans for its first annual Mother’s Day Mammogram event during special dates and hours at five of its facilities across Southwest Virginia in conjunction with Mother’s Day weekend. The events will take place May 5-8.

“Breast cancer affects one in eight women. Annual mammogram screening helps with early detection which means less treatment and better survival,” said Jolene B Henshaw, MD, a board-certified general surgeon. “Our imaging services such as digital 3D mammography and breast ultrasound are vital to this process.”

“In 2020, 19 percent of women delayed breast screenings due to COVID-19,” said April Woodward, vice president of oncology at LewisGale Regional Health System. “The precautions we’ve taken and the new protections we’ve put in place make our facilities among the safest possible places to receive screenings and imaging services.”

Special hours for annual mammograms are scheduled at the following locations across Southwest Virginia. To schedule, call the phone number list below each location.
