Pulaski, VA, November, 2014 – LewisGale Regional Health System is pleased to announce the appointment of Derek Vance, FACHE, as the new Chief Executive Officer for LewisGale Hospital Pulaski. He assumed the role on November 13 and already has plans to grow the hospital by building on its reputation of clinical excellence and service to the community.
“I felt like this was a special place when I came for my interview,” he said. “It is rare you find a community hospital that is truly having an impact on people in a personal way, and also has the support of a larger health system that is known for high-quality care throughout Southwest Virginia. It is a great facility and we want to make it even stronger.”
LewisGale President Jon Bartlett is confident Derek is the right leader to take the hospital to the next level.
“Derek has more than 14 years of leadership experience and a proven track record for fostering exceptional patient care at the hospitals he has served,” said Jon. “His expertise will be an important asset as we continue to look for new opportunities to serve the region and to provide our patients with the excellent clinical care and experience they expect from LewisGale.”
Derek comes from Davis Hospital and Medical Center, a 225-bed facility in Layton, Utah, where he has served as Chief Operating Officer since 2009. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Operations and Business Development of Labette Health in Parsons, Kansas. During his healthcare career, he has also served as Director of Surgical Services at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo, Indiana, and as Administrative Fellow at St. Vincent Health, also in Indiana.
Derek earned a Master of Healthcare Administration degree from Ohio State University in Columbus and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
“I plan to bring strong leadership and a vision for the hospital,” said Derek. “While our hospital has many strengths, I want to build on several of its services including cancer care, orthopedics, ENT, and our emergency department. My mission is to make sure that everything we do, we do it exceptionally well.”
In his spare time, Derek is an accomplished pianist, a marathon runner, and a racquetball enthusiast. He also enjoys giving back to the community and has been involved with the Boy Scouts, Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce, Utah Healthcare Executives and Davis Education Foundation. He and his wife, Christine, and their four children, Garrett, 14; Camille, 11; Elena, 9; and Carson, 7; are most looking forward to enjoying the beauty of the region and being closer to their families.
“We are excited to be a part of this community and look forward to making Southwest Virginia our home,” said Derek.
