Mentoring New Nurses
Through our COMPASS Coaching Program at all LewisGale hospitals, an experienced nurse is paired with each new employee throughout his or her orientation. The specially trained preceptor acts as an educator, socializer and role model, sharing nursing expertise and helping the new staff member become a valued member of the healthcare team. New nursing staff members have the opportunity to continue their professional development through a mentoring experience that includes classroom learning and supervised clinical experiences, which helps our nurses build the confidence and skills needed for future growth and leadership.
