Prenatal care

Whether this is your first baby or your fourth, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed by conflicting advice from well-meaning family members, neighbors and friends. At LewisGale Hospital Montgomery, we offer comprehensive prenatal care to help you learn to trust your instincts and feel confident in becoming a parent.

Our experts also provide high-risk pregnancy care for several maternal-fetal conditions.

Labor and delivery

Labor and delivery can take time. We offer comfortable accommodations for you and your partner and private bathrooms so you can labor your way.

Our birth center provides unified labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum (LDRP) rooms, so you can stay in the same inviting, spacious room during your entire visit.

We also have the latest obstetric technology and resources, including an anesthesiologist and dedicated operating rooms nearby for unplanned or emergency cesarean sections.

Birth planning

We offer prenatal classes and birth center tours, with up-to-date information and advice about pregnancy, childbirth and parenthood. You can also set up a private tour through your participating provider. We cover a wide range of topics, from managing pain to breastfeeding support classes.

We also encourage you to choose from an array of personalized birth planning options tailored to your needs, such as:

• Epidural
• Hydrotherapy
• Wireless fetal monitoring
• Delayed umbilical cord clamping
• Immediate skin-to-skin contact

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Our Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), also called a special care nursery, provides 24/7 care to newborns who were born a few weeks early or have mild health problems.

Postpartum care

After your baby is born, you receive comprehensive postpartum care and support. LewisGale Hospital Montgomery offers free support groups that meet regularly in the birthing center classroom. Registration is not required but if you have questions about an upcoming meeting, call (540) 953-5409.

Birthing center

The birthing center at LewisGale Hospital Montgomery is located on the first floor in the rear of the hospital. Expectant mothers and visitors can go directly to the birthing center without first checking in at the main hospital reception desk.

All doors except for the main entrance to the birthing center are kept locked at all times for safety and security. There is free parking located right outside the center for your convenience.

Visiting friends and family are welcome to stay in the waiting room or in the birthing suite. Complimentary nutritious meals are served to laboring moms and one guest between 6:30am - 6:30pm.

Our birthing center at LewisGale Hospital Montgomery was the first in the state of Virginia recognized as a Baby-Friendly® hospital for providing optimal support for breastfeeding. Our maternity team is made up of specialized nurse practitioners, registered nurses, obstetrician technicians, OBGYNs, anesthesiologists and support staff to provide superior care during your stay. Our family-friendly birthing suites are comfortable and designed to enhance your experience and give you personalized labor and delivery options.
