Medical imaging services

We offer a range of exams in nuclear medicine and interventional radiology. Our diagnostic procedures and imaging services include:

• Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scans
• Computed tomography (CT) scans
• X-rays
• Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
• Ultrasounds
• Positron emission tomography (PET) scans
• Mammograms

Scheduling your imaging appointment

All diagnostic imaging tests require a doctor's order with the exception of annual mammograms. Outpatient scheduling is coordinated by the imaging center and your physician's office, however you can get more information about your appointment or reschedule by calling the office directly at (540) 776-4052. Patients can also request copies of their reports and images by calling the center.

Preparing for your appointment

There may be limitations on food and water prior to an imaging test. Your referring physician will communicate any preparation for your specific exam.

Arrive 15 to 30 minutes early to allow for time to register. We ask that you bring insurance information, a list of medications you are currently taking and doctor's orders or additional paperwork provided to you by your referring physician.

Arriving at the diagnostic imaging center

When you arrive to LewisGale Medical Center you can park in our lot, or patients can take advantage of our free valet services and wheelchair assistance. Patients arriving for imaging services can follow marked signs to the outpatient entrance, which is near the ER. Once you check in at the registration desk you will be directed to your appointment location.

All imaging services can be reached through this entrance except for mammograms and breast ultrasounds which are located at the Breast Center.
