Salem, VA, November, 2015 – Once again, all four LewisGale Regional Health System hospitals were named as one of the nation’s 2014 Top Performers on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of healthcare organizations in America. Only 32% of accredited U.S. hospitals earned this status for 2014 and 34 Virginia hospitals.
This is the third time all four hospitals have achieved this exemplary level of performance, since The Joint Commission started publishing its report in 2011. LewisGale Hospital Alleghany has been named a Top Performer every year. This is the fourth time for LewisGale Medical Center, LewisGale Hospital Montgomery and LewisGale Hospital Pulaski.
“To be the only health system in Southwest Virginia to achieve this recognition multiple times is a testament to our unwavering commitment to clinical excellence,” said Jon Bartlett, President, LewisGale Regional Health System. “We strive daily to provide our patients with safe, effective, timely care that is proven to give them the best possible outcomes. I want to commend our physicians and staff for this achievement.”
The hospitals were recognized by The Joint Commission based on 2014 data reported about evidence-based clinical processes linked to better patient outcomes for certain medical conditions and procedures:
- LewisGale Medical Center: heart attack, heart failure, stroke, pneumonia and surgical care
- LewisGale Hospital Alleghany: pneumonia and surgical care
- LewisGale Hospital Montgomery: heart attack, stroke, pneumonia, venous thromboembolism and surgical care
- LewisGale Hospital Pulaski: stroke, pneumonia, venous thromboembolism and surgical care
The Joint Commission singles out hospitals based on their performance related to accountability measures on heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, stroke, venous thromboembolism, perinatal care, immunizations, children’s asthma and inpatient psychiatric care.
